Warm Up Your Outdoor Space With a Fire Pit

Make the most out of this fall season with a fire pit. With this DIY tip, you can transform your backyard into a warm, cozy outdoor oasis in no time!

Before you begin getting your hands dirty, you will need to check the building codes in your neighborhood to ensure that you follow the proper specifications. Once you have the regulations squared away, then you should choose where to put your pit. While having it easily accessible is ideal, you need to choose a spot that is far enough away from both your house and garage. You also do not want the pit to be near any low-hanging trees, as the fire could easily catch the tree on fire. Now that you have picked the perfect place, it is time to get to work!

When you build your fire pit, you want to ensure that the size of the pit is reasonable. You do not want your fire pit to be too small because then it will not produce enough heat, and there will not be enough room for your guests to gather around it. However, you do not want your pit to be too large either. If it is too big, the fire will be harder to control. An ideal size for your fire pit is 12 – 18 inches tall, and 3 feet wide. This size will allow you to have a decent sized fire; however, your guests and you will still be able to converse with one another.

First, you will lay the concrete pavers in a circle. You want to check that the circle is the correct size in diameter by using a tape measure. Once your circle is completed, you want to mark a circle in the ground using a spade or shovel. Then, count how many pavers are in the circle before removing them. Now it is time to dig a 12-inch deep hole within the marked circle. After you have the hole dug, you can then pour sand into it and tamper it to be level. Next, lay the pavers down again around the circle. You should stack them until they are at least 12 inches above the ground. Once your circle of stones is set, pour a layer of sand into it. You want the layer to be around four to five inches deep. Now, you need to add some firewood, light the fire and step back and admire your work!
